Netanyahu Claims Iran Attempted to Assassinate One of His Sons
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Monday, August 24, 2026, that Iran attempted to assassinate one of his sons. Speaking in a phone interview with Israel's Channel 14, Netanyahu stated, "Iran was after one of my sons. Iran tried to kill him, assassinate one of my sons." He added that the security provided to his family is "not a luxury" and that "without it, they (the Iranians) would simply succeed." Netanyahu has two sons, Avner and Yair, but did not specify which son was targeted, nor did he provide details about when or where the alleged attempt occurred. Until Netanyahu's remarks were published, censorship had prohibited the publication of information regarding the assassination attempt on his son, with the detail having been under a publication ban for months.
