1. Who we are

Asgard News is operated by Asgard World Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. When this policy refers to "we", "us", or "our", it means Asgard World Ltd. Our contact email is support@asgard.world.

2. What data we collect

When you create an account or use Asgard News, we may collect the following categories of personal data.

Account information. Your name, email address, and authentication credentials (managed via Supabase Auth). If you sign in with a third-party provider such as Google, we receive the profile information you authorise that provider to share.

Preferences and profile data. Topics of interest, regions, professional background, investment profile, life-stage information, notification settings, and any other preferences you provide through the settings page.

Portfolio holdings. If you choose to add portfolio holdings, we store the ticker symbols and quantities you enter so that we can show you relevant news and impact analysis.

Usage data. Pages visited, features used, stories read, chat messages, search queries, and interactions with the news graph and perspective plane.

Technical data. IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referral source, and session duration. This is collected automatically through server logs and cookies. For anonymous visitors, we record an approximate location (city and country) and a hashed, non-reversible version of the IP address for aggregate analytics, retained for a limited period.

Payment data. If you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe processes your payment information. We do not store your full card number or bank details. We receive only the information needed to manage your subscription, such as the last four digits of your card and billing address.

3. How we use your data

We process your personal data for the following purposes.

Providing the service. To create and manage your account, deliver personalised news feeds, power the chat assistant, generate daily digests, and display portfolio impact analysis.

AI-powered analysis. We use AI models provided by Anthropic (Claude) and Voyage AI to analyse news articles, generate summaries, assess bias, create embeddings for semantic search, and answer your questions in the chat interface. When you interact with the chat feature, your messages and relevant context are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.

Improving the product. To understand how the service is used, identify bugs, and improve features.

Billing. To process payments and manage subscriptions through Stripe.

Communication. To send you daily digests (if enabled), service announcements, and responses to support requests.

4. Legal basis for processing (UK GDPR)

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation, we rely on the following legal bases.

Contract. Processing that is necessary to provide you with the service you signed up for, including account management, news delivery, and subscription billing.

Legitimate interests. Processing for product improvement, security, and fraud prevention, where our interests do not override your rights.

Consent. Where we rely on your consent (for example, optional analytics cookies), you can withdraw it at any time through your browser settings or by contacting us.

5. Third-party services

We share data with the following third-party processors, each of which has its own privacy policy and data processing agreements in place.

Supabase. Hosts our database and handles authentication. Your account data, preferences, and usage records are stored in Supabase's infrastructure.

Anthropic. Provides the Claude AI model used for news analysis, summarisation, and the chat interface. Chat messages and article content are sent to Anthropic's API for processing.

Voyage AI. Provides embedding models used for semantic search and content similarity. Article text is sent to Voyage AI to generate vector embeddings.

Stripe. Processes payments for paid subscriptions. Your payment details are handled directly by Stripe and are subject to Stripe's privacy policy.

Google (YouTube Data API). We use the YouTube Data API to search for and play music tracks contextually matched to the news you are reading. Search queries are sent to Google's servers server-side; results are cached and no personal data is transmitted to Google in the process. Playback uses the YouTube IFrame Player, which is subject to YouTube's Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.

Vercel. Hosts the application. Vercel processes technical data such as IP addresses and request logs as part of delivering the service.

6. Data retention

We retain your account data and preferences for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it for longer (for example, billing records may be retained for up to 7 years for tax purposes).

Usage logs and analytics data are retained for up to 12 months in identifiable form, after which they are anonymised or deleted.

Chat history is retained for 90 days to allow you to review past conversations, after which it is automatically deleted.

7. International transfers

Some of our third-party processors are based outside the United Kingdom. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the Information Commissioner's Office or adequacy decisions recognised under UK law.

8. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data.

Access. You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Rectification. You can ask us to correct inaccurate data or complete incomplete data. You can also update most of your information directly in the settings page.

Erasure. You can ask us to delete your personal data where there is no compelling reason for us to continue processing it. The quickest way to do this is via our account deletion page(see section 9 below).

Restriction. You can ask us to restrict the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.

Data portability. You can request a machine-readable copy of the data you provided to us.

Objection. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@asgard.world. We will respond within one month.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

9. How to delete your data

You can request deletion of your account and the personal data we hold about you at any time, including from outside the app, at asgard.news/delete-account. You can also reach this page from the account settings screen.

When you submit a request, we archive your account immediately and send you a confirmation email. There is a 7-day grace period during which you can cancel the request (by signing back in and returning to the deletion page, or by contacting support@asgard.world). After 7 days, your account, profile, preferences, saved items, portfolio holdings, briefing history and other personal data are permanently erased and cannot be recovered. We send a final email to confirm once the deletion is complete.

If you are not signed in when you make the request, we email a verification link to the address you provide and only schedule the deletion once you click it, so that no one can delete someone else's account. A limited set of records may be retained where we are legally required to keep them, as described in section 6.

10. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookie Policy.

11. Children

Asgard News is not directed at anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice on the service. The "last updated" date at the top of this page shows when the policy was most recently revised.

13. Contact

If you have questions about this privacy policy or how we handle your data, contact us at support@asgard.world.
